Minkin grew up in Milwaukee and moved to Phoenix at the age of eight with her parents and two brothers . [2] She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and made statements in the 2010 Molecular and Cell Biology . She then enrolled at Arizona Summit Law School and graduated in 2014, with a law degree. Since then, Minkin has been working for the law firm Kent & Wittekind, PC in Phoenix. [3]

Minkin occasionally visited the local casino during her college years with her then boyfriend. Minkin went regularly alone to the casino and played, slowly working up in the stakes. In August 2013, Minkin played her first live tournament at the Arizona State Poker Championship in Scottsdale after her father encouraged her. [2] There, she finished second among 1,299 players and was awarded a prize of 150,000 US dollars . [4]
From then on Minkin often played regional poker tournaments . [5] In January 2015, she won a tournament as part of the LA Poker Classic in Los Angeles with a prize money of 55,000 dollars. [6] Only a week later, they reached the Main Event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) in Hollywood , Florida , the final table and finished the tournament in third place for a prize of 260,000 dollars, the highest ever of her poker career. [7] In June 2015 she participated for the first time in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas. She was successful and cashed in three tournaments in theNo Limit Hold'em category. [5] In July 2015 , she played the WSOP Main Event with a buy-in of $ 10,000. There she reached the sixth tournament day and ended as the best woman in 29th place. For this she received prize money of about $ 210,000. [8] In the ranking of the Global Poker Index Player of the Year in 2015 occupied Minkin at year-end as the best woman the 250th place and was therefore given (in February 2016) the American Poker Awards in Beverly Hills for GPI Female Player of the Year .
